Location • Execution of a large-scale waterproofing system for open irrigation channels.
• Installation of PVC and TPO membranes to ensure watertightness of canal slabs and joints.
• Treatment of expansion and construction joints between slabs and channels.
• Injection and bonding works for crack repair and slab settlement issues.
• Application of SikaPlan systems (SikaPlan 1100 & SikaPlan 750) for high-performance waterproofing.
1: Extremely harsh desert environment in Borg El Arab, with wide temperature variations and difficult logistics for handling large-scale membranes.
2: Very large surface area (400,000 m²) requiring high productivity and precise coordination.
3: Slab settlements and cracks occurred in some zones, requiring additional engineering and injection solutions.
A combination of engineering solutions + injection techniques + membrane systems was applied. Expansion joints were carefully treated, defective slabs were repaired and bonded, and membranes were installed under strict quality control. Despite the difficult conditions, the project was delivered on time as part of a national mega project under the supervision of the Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Authority.
